Can LaunchDarkly be self-hosted?
No. LaunchDarkly offers a Relay Proxy that caches flag data inside your network, which is often mistaken for self-hosting, but the platform itself runs in LaunchDarkly’s cloud. Flagsmith can be genuinely self-hosted via Docker, Helm or an air-gapped deployment. If on-premise is a hard requirement, that difference decides the comparison on its own.
Is Flagsmith cheaper than LaunchDarkly?
Usually, but by less than people expect once a team grows. A team of eight with one backend service and 50,000 client-side MAU pays roughly $596/mo on LaunchDarkly Foundation against roughly $450/mo on Flagsmith Scale-Up — because Flagsmith caps Scale-Up at five seats and charges about $50 for each one after that. Are both SOC 2 certified?
